Have you ever been on Instagram or Facebook and been inundated with over conceptualised photos of mundane objects, such as an avocado... yep me too. Is it wrong that I love them?
The reason advertising companies do this is to allow you to see such a mundane object in the best light possible. Imagine if the avocado you saw was turning brown (which by the way I can tell you, happens very quickly especially under studio lights). You wouldn't want to go to your nearest Oliver Bonas and buy an avocado shaped photo holder clip.
But when you see an avocado at its best, all lovely and smooth and lacking any brown you either want to eat one, which I can tell you I did straight after this photoshoot, or you go and buy something that makes you think of the lovely looking avocado on the perfect straight line lying between two pastel colours.
What I found fascinating about this photoshoot is how clean I had to be. You learn something new every day and this is definitely something I will be taking forward. You wouldn't know it but avocados are messy. They are also very slippery and I may or may not have dropped a few slices on the floor. However what I have learnt is that being self employed gives you time. Time to think about what I'm doing and to be methodical.
Let me know if there's anything you want me to photograph and I'll get on it!
